- An optical smearing of a transiting planet's silhouette against the Sun's edge, which limited historic timing precision.

- An unusually tight capillary wall around the brain, far stricter than an ordinary capillary about what it lets through.

- A way of placing brackets in an expression to fix the order.

- An official count of every member of a population, such as the Census of India.

- The angle at the centre between two neighbouring corners of a regular polygon: 360° ÷ n.

- The point at the centre of the protractor's semicircle, placed on the vertex when measuring.

- A permanently shadowed, extremely cold region where volatile substances such as water ice can survive for very long periods without evaporating.
